Trade Review: Week Two

"Apple Looking To Create Spotify And Pandora Style Music Streaming Service"

WorldTVPC’s article “Apple Looking To Create Spotify And Pandora Style Music Streaming Service” proposes that the music industry is on the verge of a pivotal change in the way the world will listen and download music if Apple creates a streaming service. Spotify and Pandora’s combined sixty-one million users have forced Apple to explore the possibility of creating a “customized streaming music in an effort to nullify these new services and cement [Apple’s] domination in the music market” (Sanger). Pandora, Spotify, and emerging music service companies alike are creeping into Apple’s revenue and thus driving Apple to invent a competing streaming service. In turn, this will change the way more than four hundred million Apple users will listen to music (Sanger).
In an epic turn to the industry and style of listening to music, the possibility of an Apple streaming service raises the issue of how will Apple attract users the same way Pandora or Spotify does, while at the same time remaining true to the Apple platform and reputation in being a trend setter. In addition, will Apple offer the streaming service for free, or will it utilize advertisements, subscriptions, or a new style by possibly paying for an application on the iPhone or iPad that streams music? The creation of an Apple streaming service would forever alter the iTunes store, where the notion of buying a digital single or album may no longer be the norm, instead you could simply stream the song and store it in a playlist like Pandora does for its users.
